Educational Services

WVHT offers various levels of Katha Klub activities/services to the devotees of all age groups.

Kids Katha (currently functioning)

They are an hour-long session that takes place once a month. Parents are encouraged to be present in class during the session to provide necessary assistance to the little ones. The session consists of firstly offering flowers and fruits to the deities. The kids then settle down for a circle story (katha) time, which is related to mythology and focuses on Hindu Gods/Goddesses and what attributes we can learn from them and apply to our daily life. The class then moves ahead into craft activities; we end the session by performing aarti as a group. The kids get a prasad goody bag to take home along with the craft they create during the session. The Kids’ Katha is an excellent opportunity to introduce your little ones to Sanatana Dharma, inculcating the habit of visiting the temple and staying in touch with our roots even if we are in a foreign land.

Katha Readers (will commence in fall 2025)

Level 2 (middle school level) is for children, pre-teens, and teens ages 9 to 15 years old. Aptly termed as the title, the focus of this Katha session is to deepen the knowledge and understanding of the religious texts like Ramayan and Mahabharata. The readers will engage through group discussions and personal research to better understand the stories and characters of our mythology. They will be introduced to the core principles of Vedanta and will get an opportunity to read about some great Vedanta gurus and speakers. The goal for this group would be to develop a deeper understanding of mythology not by just reading the texts but by asking questions and finding answers through teamwork and fostering camaraderie.

Katha Narrators (vision going forward)

Level 3 (high school) is for teenagers and young adults aged between 16 and 18 years old. They would be involved in community projects with a mission to learn about selfless service and the skill to give back to the community. Interfaith community programs like food drives, city/park cleanups, serving in the mandir during festivals, assisting the kids’ katha sessions, etc. This will also help them earn high school credits and foster a positive community spirit!
